Meet Peter, The Pickler!

He’s Pickled more than a Peck of Peppers in his time

Gender: Male

Age: 65

Occupation: Pepper Farmer

Technical Proficiency: Beginner

Motivation: growing the most flavorful peppers possible

Behaviors

  • Spends time at local farmers’ markets and events, promoting his pickled peppers
  • Passionate about peppers, especially the spicy varieties

Goals

  • To perfect his pickling techniques to create the tastiest pickled pepper products
  • To share his love of peppers with others and educate them about the different varieties

Challenges

  • The unpredictability of weather and pests can affect pepper yields
  • Educating consumers about the benefits of eating spicy peppers

Peter would like a simple way to interact and communicate with other pepper enthusiasts, that doesn’t take up a lot of his time

And his Application

A simple application where users can update information and communicate with each other

Functionality –

  • 2 overly large buttons, easier to see and click
  • Reduced options for simplicity
  • Community Link to chat and message with others on the application
  • Learn about different types of peppers
  • Added a list for upcoming events like farmers markets
  • Sign In option, to be able to chat, message or update pepper information
  • Search option for quick access to pepper information

Design –

  • Recommending a gradient yellow to red theme
  • Recommending larger font with contrasting colors for higher visibility and readability
  • Recommending a picture forward site with limited text
  • Utilize the 2 large buttons as the home page image, not as just buttons to be clicked

Overall the concept is very easy to use and requires little technological knowledge to navigate.

Lets make sure we understand the task completely.

Who is the User?

And what do they want?

Interviews and Personas can tell us a lot about what is really wanted vs. what is actually needed. They also help to minimize our personal preferences influencing the design.

It’s the Users Experience that we are concerned with, not the Developers vision, or current trends.
